Saving confusion, losing a gesture that's ambiguous (1,4)
I believe the answer is:
v sign
'saving confusion' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.
'losing a gesture that's ambiguous' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'gesture' could be 'sign' (signing is a kind of gesturing) and 'sign' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'v' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for v sign that I've seen before include "Rude gesture" , "Gesture (from Winston or Harvey?)" , "small number in Rome" , "Winning indication" , "Offensive gesture" .)
