Savoury dish, lightly cooked — was tempted (7)
I believe the answer is:
rarebit
'savoury dish' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'lightly cooked was tempted' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'lightly cooked' could be 'rare' (as in a rare steak) and 'rare' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'bit' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rarebit that I've seen before include "Cheesy snack" , "Arbiter of Welsh dish with melted cheese on toast" , "Toasted cheese and bread" , "Cheese/toast savoury" , "cheesy meal" .)
