Scold for woven band going to higher point (7)
I believe the answer is:
upbraid
'scold' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'woven band going to higher point' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'higher' could be 'up' and 'up' is found in the answer.
'point' could be 'aid' (I have seen 'Good point ' mean 'aid' so perhaps 'point' could also mean 'aid') and 'aid' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'for' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for upbraid that I've seen before include "Dress down" , "Condemn" , "Scold, reproach" , "Reproach sternly about arid pub" , "Reproach strongly over arid pub" .)
