Scope for drama, perhaps, where kids run free? (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

playroom

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'where kids run free?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'scope for drama' is the wordplay.
'scope' becomes 'room' (both can mean space).
'for' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other) (I've seen this in other clues).
'drama' becomes 'play' (synonyms).
'room' put after 'play' is 'PLAYROOM'.

'perhaps' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for playroom that I've seen before include "where children can be found" , "fun and games here" , "in which children don't work" , "where toys are kept" , "recreation area" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
