Sea creature to chuck back without its tail (7)
I believe the answer is:
lobster
'sea creature' is the definition.
'chuck back without its tail' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'chuck' could be 'lob' (I've seen this before) and 'lob' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ster' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for lobster that I've seen before include "Large marine decapod" , "Pincered crustacean, a delicacy" , "Large, strong-jawed crustacean" , "It turns bright-red when cooked" , "one for the pot?" .)
