Crossword Genius

Series of notes soldier made about the Shaky Islands (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

glissandi

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'series of notes' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'made about the shaky islands' is the wordplay.
'made' becomes 'gi' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'about' indicates putting letters inside.
'the shaky' indicates anagramming the letters.
'islands' with letters rearranged gives 'lissand'.
'gi' enclosing 'lissand' is 'GLISSANDI'.

'soldier' acts as a link.
This may not be correct. It may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for glissandi that I've seen before include "Series of rapidly ascending or descending musical notes" , "Slides (music)" , "Players may perform them" , "showing smooth actions" , "playing, while sliding up and down the passages" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
