Crossword Genius

Showers following golf seeds (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

grains

'seeds' is the definition.
(grain is a kind of seed)

'showers following golf' is the wordplay.
'showers' becomes 'rains' (I've seen this before).
'following' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'golf' becomes 'g' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'rains' put after 'g' is 'GRAINS'.

(Other definitions for grains that I've seen before include "Tiny pieces of wheat or sand" , "Seeds" , "Granular particles" , "Particles of sand" , "'Granules, kernels (6)'" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
