Small settlements belonging to the Prince of Denmark (7)
I believe the answer is:
hamlets
'small settlements' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'belonging to the prince of denmark' is the wordplay.
'belonging' becomes 's' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other) (I've seen this in other clues).
'the prince of denmark' becomes 'hamlet' (I've seen this before).
's' after 'hamlet' is 'HAMLETS'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for hamlets that I've seen is " Very small villages".)
