Sound piece of braid, albeit damp (5)
I believe the answer is:
humid
'damp' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'sound piece of braid albeit' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'sound' could be 'hum' (humming is a kind of sounding) and 'hum' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'id' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for humid that I've seen before include "Sultry" , "Damp and warm" , "(Of atmosphere) with high water vapour content" , "Moist, warm (weather)" , "Warm and steamy" .)
