I believe the answer is:

wraiths

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'spirits' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.

'spleen's absorbing single' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'single' could be 'i' (one) and 'i' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'wraths' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for wraiths that I've seen before include "They haunt" , "spirits are made" , "Spectres" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
