Standard stories having no little force? (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

parables

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'standard stories' is the definition.
'parables' can be an answer for 'stories' (parable is a kind of story). I'm not certain of the 'standard' bit.

'no little force?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'little' could be 'l' (abbreviation) and 'l' is present in the answer.
'force?' could be 'e' (E is the symbol of electromotive force) and 'e' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'having' is the link.

(Other definitions for parables that I've seen before include "Pal bares all in stories told to illustrate moral issues" , "Stories told to illustrate moral lessons, as in the Gospels" , "Pale bars can show bible stories" , "Biblical stories to illustrate doctrine" , "Moral tales in the New Testament" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
