Step aboard to be on friendly terms (3,2)
I believe the answer is:
get on
'step aboard' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'on friendly terms' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'on' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'get' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to be' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for get on that I've seen before include "fare" , "Enjoy harmonious relationship" , "Age; prosper" , "Board (a bus)" , "Make progress, do well in life" .)
