Crossword Genius

String of invective from one in job (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tirade

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'string of invective' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'one in job' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found within the answer.
'job' could be 'trade' (I've seen this before) and 'trade' is located in the leftover letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tirade that I've seen before include "A prolonged diatribe" , "Long speech of angry criticism" , "Speech of violent denunciation" , "Sustained abuse" , "Verbal broadside" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
