Crossword Genius

Ross

I believe the answer is:

odysseus

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'greek hero' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'sues sydo returning' is the wordplay.
'returning' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'sues'+'sydo'='suessydo'
'suessydo' back-to-front is 'ODYSSEUS'.

'legendary' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for odysseus that I've seen before include "Hero of an epic poem attributed to Homer" , "Classical traveller" , "King of Ithaca, who returned after the siege of Troy" , "Homer's wandering hero" , "Ancient king" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
