Crossword Genius

Tackle coverage of unknown weather features (1-6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

y-fronts

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tackle coverage' is the definition.
I don't know anything about this answer so I cannot judge whether this works.

'unknown weather features' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'unknown' could be 'y' (algebra) and 'y' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'fronts' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for y-fronts that I've seen before include "Men's underpants" , "Male undergarment" , "Type of underpants" , "Underwear (of a certain character?)" , "Men's pants" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
