The location in Paris for a mathematician (7)
I believe the answer is:
laplace
'for a mathematician' is the definition.
(Pierre-Simon Laplace, 1749-1827)
'the location in paris' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'location' could be 'place' (a location is a place) and 'place' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'la' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for laplace that I've seen before include "French astronomer and mathematician" , "French scientist" , "Pierre-Simon -, Fr. mathematician, astronomer" .)
