The takings to pass on to somebody else? (8)
I believe the answer is:
turnover
'the takings' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'to pass on to somebody else?' is the wordplay.
'to pass' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'on' becomes 'over' (over can mean on top of).
'to somebody else?' becomes 'turn' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'over' after 'turn' is 'TURNOVER'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for turnover that I've seen before include "Pastry; money taken by business" , "Business done" , "volume of business" , "sweet" , "Total value of sales" .)
