Crossword Genius

Those that bolt bow of aircraft into airstrips (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

runaways

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'airstrips' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'those that bolt bow of aircraft' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'bolt' could be 'run' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'run' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'aways' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'into' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for runaways that I've seen before include "absconders" , "Fugitives" , "Easy victories for those who flee" , "flyers" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
