Time for a Beatles record (9)
I believe the answer is:
yesterday
'record' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how they can define each other.
'time for a beatles' is the wordplay.
'time' becomes 'day' (day is a kind of time).
'for' means one lot of letters go next to another (I've seen this in other clues).
'a beatles' becomes 'yester' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'day' after 'yester' is 'YESTERDAY'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for yesterday that I've seen before include "Macartney song" , "Twenty-four hours ago" , "short time ago" , "Eve', the most recent" , "some time in the past" .)
