I believe the answer is:

homes

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'is where people live' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this defines the answer.

'to some perhaps a hotel' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'some' is 'omes' which is located in the answer.
'hotel' could be 'h' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'h' is located in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for homes that I've seen before include "Dwellings, houses" , "Domiciles" , "Dwellings, abodes" , "accommodation" , "Dwelling-places" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
