I believe the answer is:

catching

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'trapping' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with contact as well as being present participle verbs.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'accountant with model cash register sound' is the wordplay.
'accountant' becomes 'CA' (abbreviation for chartered accountant).
'with' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'model' becomes 'T' (Ford Model T car).
'cash register sound' becomes 'ching' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'ca'+'t'+'ching'='CATCHING'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for catching that I've seen before include "Stopping and holding a moving object" , "Getting hold of or becoming infected" , "Seizing" , "Snaring" , "getting infectious" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
