Urban square’s tree that sheds its outer parts (6)
I believe the answer is:
street
'urban' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'square's tree that sheds its outer parts' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'tree' is 'reet' which is located in the answer.
'square' could be 't' (a T-Square is a technical drawing instrument) and 't' is found within the answer.
A single letter 's' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for street that I've seen before include "Road lined with buildings" , "Tester (anag.)" , "Tester in public road" , "Way; setter (anag.)" , "City road" .)
