Urged to have done differently at the Oval (5,2)
I believe the answer is:
egged on
'urged' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I don't understand how one could define the other.
'done differently at the oval' is the wordplay.
'differently' indicates an anagram.
'at' means one lot of letters go next to another (I've seen this in other clues).
'the oval' becomes 'egg' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'done' anagrammed gives 'edon'.
'edon' after 'egg' is 'EGGED ON'.
'to have' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for egged on that I've seen before include "Encouraged" , "Incited" .)
