Where the islanders are a bit capricious? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

capri

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'where the islanders' is the definition.
The definition suggests a singular noun which matches the answer.

'a bit capricious?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' is found in the answer.
'bit' could be 'i' (resembles 1, a binary digit or bit) and 'i' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cpr' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'are' is the link.
