Will the drab return? (3,4)
I believe the answer is:
the bard
'will' is the definition.
(The Bard is a name for William Shakespeare)
'the drab return?' is the wordplay.
'return?' says the letters should be written backwards (I've seen 'returning' mean this).
'drab' back-to-front is 'bard'.
'the'+'bard'='THE BARD'
(Another definition for the bard that I've seen is " Shakespeare".)
I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
