I believe the answer is:

divot

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'earth way' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both natural objects as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'it's strikingly misplaced in a down' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'down' could be 'd' and 'd' is present in the answer.
'it' could be 't' (abbreviation. e.g. in 'tis) and 't' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ivo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for divot that I've seen before include "Gouged-out turf" , "Piece of turf dug out of a lawn" , "Golfer's dislodged turf" , "Small piece of turf cut out" , "Loose piece of turf" .)
