A game of men (5)
I believe the answer is:
chess
'a game' is the definition.
(I know that chess is a board game)
'men' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'men' could be 'hes' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'hes' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'of' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for chess that I've seen before include "form of battle" , "activity aimed at downfall of a king" , "show" , "This is played on board" , "Sixteen-men-a-side game" .)
