Crossword Genius

An individual consumer (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cannibal

I believe this is a double definition.

'an individual' is the first definition.
(cannibal is a kind of individual)

'consumer' is the second definition.
(I have seen 'Fellow consumer' mean 'cannibal' so perhaps 'consumer' could also mean 'cannibal')

(Other definitions for cannibal that I've seen before include "Eater of one's own kind" , "One eating own species" , "Person who eats human flesh" , "Person eating human flesh" , "One eats human flesh" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail and The Telegraph.
