Bird whose noise is only partly heard? (7)
I believe the answer is:
buzzard
'bird' is the definition.
(buzzard is a kind of bird)
'noise is only partly heard?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'noise' could be 'buzz' (I have seen 'Noise of bees ' mean 'buzz' so perhaps 'noise' could also mean 'buzz') and 'buzz' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ard' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
'whose' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for buzzard that I've seen before include "American vulture or European hawk" , "Raptor" , "Predatory hawk" , "See 20" , "Large hawk-like bird of prey" .)
