Crossword Genius

Curiosity has no function on ship (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nosiness

'curiosity' is the definition.
(I know that nosiness is a type of curiousness)

'no function on ship' is the wordplay.
'function' becomes 'sine' (mathematical function).
'on' says to put letters next to each other.
'ship' becomes 'SS' (prefix in ship names eg SS Great Britain).
'no'+'sine'+'ss'='NOSINESS'

'has' is the link.

(Other definitions for nosiness that I've seen before include "Inquisitive quality" , "Tendency to pry" , "Curiosity of nasal kind" , "Prying" , "Inquisitiveness" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
