Galling debate unpacked, even rendered true (9)
I believe the answer is:
departure
'galling debate' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.
'unpacked even rendered true' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'even' could be 'par' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'par' is located in the answer.
an anagram of 'true' is 'etur' which is located in the remaining letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for departure that I've seen before include "Not the usual" , "outbound journey?" , "Act of leaving" , "The act of going away" , "Lucky" .)
