Ross

I believe the answer is:

strand

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'hairy london thoroughfare?' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's an association between them I don't understand?

'thoroughfare?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'thoroughfare?' could be 'st' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'st' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rand' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for strand that I've seen before include "Maroon - filament" , "Drive aground on shore" , "Old magazine" , "Line of fibres twisted to form a thread" , "Leave in helpless position" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
