Insect settled on the cheese for a short while (7)
I believe the answer is:
briefly
'for a short while' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'insect settled on the cheese' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'insect' could be 'fly' (fly is a kind of insect) and 'fly' is located in the answer.
'cheese' could be 'brie' (Brie is an example) and 'brie' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for briefly that I've seen before include "Fleetingly" , "In a few words" , "Concisely" , "gets to the point" , "For a short time" .)
