Item of furniture, very Indian? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

divan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'item of furniture' is the definition.
'divan' can be an answer for 'furniture' (divan is a kind of furniture). I'm unsure of the 'item of' bit.

'very indian?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'very' could be 'v' (common abbreviation) and 'v' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'dian' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for divan that I've seen before include "Long backless sofa" , "Viand (anag.)" , "Couch - bed" , "resting place" , "Sort of bed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
