Crossword Genius

Pole cut into eight (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

octuple

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'eight' is the definition.
Both the definition and answer are adjectives. Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'pole cut' is the wordplay.
'pole cut' anagrams to 'OCTUPLE'.
However, I am not sure how the anagram is indicated.

'into' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for octuple that I've seen before include "Couplet (anag)" , "8 times" , "multiply by eight" , "more than seven times" , "Eightfold" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
