Posts put up backward slob, full of fat (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bollards

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'posts' is the definition.
(I know this)

'backward slob full of fat' is the wordplay.
'backward' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'full of' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'fat' becomes 'lard' (lard is a kind of fat).
'slob' reversed gives 'bols'.
'bols' enclosing 'lard' is 'BOLLARDS'.

'put up' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bollards that I've seen before include "Posts in roads used as barriers" , "Short thick posts keeping traffic off road island, or for mooring ships" , "Markers" , "Posts for mooring lines" , "Strong posts on road or quay" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
