Rings about fabulous bird outside in river (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

orinoco

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'river' is the definition.
(Orinoco River is an example)

'rings about fabulous bird outside in' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'about' could be 'c' (abbreviation for 'circa') and 'c' is located in the answer.
'rings' could be 'oo' (multiple circles) and 'oo' is found within the remaining letters.
'in' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'or' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for orinoco that I've seen before include "South American river flowing into the Atlantic" , "banker" , "Colombia/Venezuela river" , "moves between South American banks" , "Common character" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
