Tease husband in popular eating-place (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chaff

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tease' is the definition.
(chaff can mean to tease or mock)

'husband in popular eating-place' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'husband' could be 'h' (abbreviation) and 'h' is found within the answer.
'eating-place' could be 'caff' (I've seen this before) and 'caff' is present in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chaff that I've seen before include "Shucks" , "Laugh at" , "Refuse from threshing" , "Refuse - banter" , "It's separated from wheat during threshing" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
