Crossword Genius

Very different from description of divorced Europeans perhaps (5,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

poles apart

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'very different' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'europeans perhaps' is the wordplay.
'europeans' becomes 'poles' (Pole is an example).
'perhaps' becomes 'apart' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'poles'+'apart'='POLES APART'

'from description of divorced' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for poles apart that I've seen before include "Having widely divergent opinions" , "Completely different" , "Quite opposite" , "widely separated" , "Goalposts are" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
