War campaign loot mostly raised with crude oil (9)
I believe the answer is:
gallipoli
'war campaign' is the definition.
'gallipoli' can be an answer for 'campaign' (I've seen this before). I am not certain of the 'war' bit.
'loot mostly raised with crude oil' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'oil' is 'oli' which is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for gallipoli that I've seen before include "part of Turkey" , "military invasion" , "Turkish site of WW1 campaign" , "Turkish scene of WW1 landing" , "military campaign" .)
