Crossword Genius

Way to get over a roofed colonnade (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

stoa

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'roofed colonnade' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'way to get over a' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'way' could be 'st' (abbreviation for street) and 'st' is located in the answer.
'over' could be 'o' (cricket abbreviation) and 'o' is located in the answer.
'a' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for stoa that I've seen before include "Oast (anag.)" , "It sheltered Greeks walking" , "Venue for Greek philosophers" , "Roofed walkway with colonnades - oats (anag)" , "classical colonnade" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
