Written down at home by opponents playing chess? (2,5,3,5)
I believe the answer is:
in black and white
'written down' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'home by opponents playing chess?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'home' could be 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in') and 'in' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'blackandwhite' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'at' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for in black and white that I've seen before include "explicit" , "Most films are no longer" , "How extreme viewpoints are" , "committed to paper" , "fundamentalist way of viewing things?" .)
